HISTORY OF CRICKET

 Cricket is a sport where you have to score more runs than the other team. Cricket has been played since the 16th century. international games were started in 1844 although international test cricket has only been around since 1877. The first time the known time the word cricket was ever used was in 1598 when a man was in court over the ownership of a piece of land known as Guildford he claimed that he played cricket on the land 50 years earlier. that means that cricket has been around before 1550.

TEST CRICKET

 Test cricket is the longest format of cricket it it can last for 5 days a test with up to 6 tests a series. each team has 11 players aside and the teams gets 2 innings to bat and 2 innings to bowl. There is no limit to the time you can bat the only way to end your innings is to get bowled out or to declare. Some times you need to declare with a small amount of runs to stop it from being a draw which happens when the 5 days in a test ends. at the end if the after both teams have batted once and one team is ahead by 50 runs when they start their second innings they have a 50 run head start. If by the end of all four innings you have scored more runs than the other team your team wins. When a team gets a lot of runs in their first innings and the other team does not in their first innings a follow on happens where the team with less runs has to bat again.

THE ASHES

The ashes is played between australia and england it is test cricket format and the biggest cricket competition in the world today. the first Ashes tournament was held in England in 1882 and Australia won.the Ashes is held in each country one match in England next match in Australia. The Ashes are the ashes of the bails which were  burned and put in a container (pictured to the left)when one team wins a series they take home a replica. On the urn there is a poem:

                           The Ashes
 "When Ivo goes back with the urn, the urn;
Studds, Steel, Read and Tylecote return, return;
The welkin will ring loud,
The great crowd will feel proud,
Seeing Barlow and Bates with the urn, the urn;
And the rest coming home with the urn."

SWING BOWLING

swing bowling is a way to get the ball to swing in mid air. To get a ball to swing you need to constantly polish one side of the ball. After a while the other side of the ball gets really worn and that makes it so the ball travels through the air different than if the ball was worn on both sides of the ball. because of the fact that one side of the ball is much more airodynamic the ball wants to move to one side which causes swing. You can make the ball move in different directions. you need to hold the ball depending on the side of the shiney side the ball will move a cirtian way. The picture shows how to get that to work

ONE DAY

the one day format of cricket is a limited over version of the game each team gets 50 overs to bat and 50 to bowl. The way to win is to score more runs than the other team before your team gets bowled out or your team runs out of overs to bat.

TWENTY20

twenty 20 is the shortest format of cricket with only 40 overs in total. the Idea of the game is to hit big from the start because you only get to bat for 20 overs and the average team has at lest 6 people who can bat. A lot of the players playing in twenty 20 cricket are normally less experienced because this format is used to see the potential of a new player as well as entertain the people who find test and ODIs a bit boring at times.
